AOMS – ANNUAL OCULAR MORPHOLOGY SEMINAR

ANNUAL OCULAR MORPHOLOGY SEMINAR (AOMS) is a series of research seminars on the evolution of human ocular morphology, organised by CLES NCU in Toruń.

The AOMS seminar series provides an interdisciplinary platform for researchers to discuss state-of-the-art knowledge on the external appearance of human eyes as compared to those of non-human primates. It aims at developing a nuanced and holistic understanding of the many factors that contributed to the present ocular appearance in our species and the role it plays in the highly specialized communicative abilities of humans. Specific areas of focus are:

• how these different ocular morphologies may be connected to different forms of communication
• current methods, from sampling strategies to meaningful measurements of ocular morphology
• the proximate mechanisms whereby selection against aggression may have contributed to the emergence of human communication, including the evolution of morphology and behavior.
